It’s my belief that in order for a story to work it must consist of a few key elements. A start, middle and end, if you will. But in order to reach that conclusion, there must be a conflict of some description. This happens across the boards, in pretty much every story ever told. Even look at children’s tales like The Lion King, or Aladdin, or countless others. Let’s take The Lion King as an example. It’s a heart-warming tale of a young lion’s coming of age. He battles guilt, sings a few happy songs, falls in love, and lives happily ever after. Oh, and did I mention that he battles his evil uncle in a fight to the death to avenge his murdered father and win back the former glory of his pride? Did I also mention that his leaves said uncle to be savaged by a pack of starving hyenas?
So then, are violent video games effecting the human mind, or is it really a case of the violent human mind effecting video games?
